When it comes time to go back to the ship, the Family Band sells this CD of the music you heard when you got off the ship that morning.  It was the best ten bucks I spent on a CD.  Good stuff there.  You should be hearing it right now!

Everyone always wants to know how much things cost on the islands.  Here are the posted taxi rates for Martinique when we were there

Martinique Briefing Book

This file has a bunch of facts and background information about Martinique collected from around the internet.  The purpose is just to provide some general information about the place before we get there.  This was a new port for us and we really had no clue what to expect plus Whitney is in her 4th year of learning French in school so it just seemed to be a natural thing to do.  I think we might do this more often as it added a great background which let us really appreciate what we were seeing quite a bit more.  Actualy I got this idea from the TV show "West Wing".  I thought I would feel important if I was to say "Whitney, hand me the briefing book on Martinique" in front of others, say at the airport.  One man did look at me but then went back to his USA Today without any visible signs of being impressed.  Probably a New Yorker.

One of the best parts of our call (visit) in Martinique happened right at the pier.  There are two small "gift" shops there that sell mostly liquor and cologne.  There are a few t-shirts sized for infants or medium sized dogs but don't count on a keepsake in actual person sizes (That would be XX or XXXL for me- like 'em roooomy).  The cool thing is a surprize bargain on water.  They sold spring water, the same as we saw locals gathering up when in the rain forrest on the way to the volcano (man that sounds exotic doesn't it?) 6 1.5 liter bottles for three bucks (US).  That's one heck of a deal when you consider that the ship charges 3+ bucks for one bottle.  Everyone was loading up on it.  Don't miss out.
