For us, shopping was not the big deal that it might have been for others. We are beach nuts and, at the suggestion of the crew again (they know thier beaches let me tell you) went to Sapphire Beach.

I think St Thomas was one of the most pleasant places I have ever been to. Yes, there were the typical poor-looking parts, but as part of the United States there was an air of stability there that I had not expereinced on other islands. That might just be me. But seeing a SAFEWAY grocery store, US POST OFFICE and the like made me feel right at home. I realized on this island that the reason some of the islands reminded me of others is that they are all islands.
(Duh)
They start out as beach then go uphill to a point, then back down again to beach. Yes, it actually took me some time to figure that out. What a revelation!
